With Place de la Colette and Place du Théâtre , it is one of the three squares bordering the Palais-Royal gardens and the Comédie Française.

At the corner of the Rue de Valois and the Rue Saint-Honoré, used to stand the Théâtre du “Petit Cardinal” (Petit Cardinal Theatre) where Molière was taken ill and died when playing Argan in “Le Malade Imaginaire” (The Hypochondriac) on 17 February 1673.
